Tucked away in a tiny back street in Knightsbridge village,
this pretty, flower-decked Victorian pub is just a two-minute stroll from
Harrods. Well away from the hustle and bustle, the Swag & Tails is a
civilised retreat with warm, friendly service and modern pub food cooked
to restaurant standards.
Over the last fifteen years, owners Annemaria and Stuart Boomer-Davies have
created a successful and welcoming neighbourhood pub-restaurant with a discerning
local trade. Good quality food is served in a warm, relaxing and civilised
environment, with high standards of cleanliness and presentation.
Pop in for a pint of Wells Bombardier and peruse the daily papers over a
decent steak sandwich at the bar, or look to the interesting and constantly
changing blackboard menu for something more substantial. Open fires, original
panelling and pine tables complement the stripped wooden floors, whilst
the windows with their attractive 'swag and tailed' curtains set the scene
in which to savour freshly prepared seasonal dishes, inspired by Mediterranean
cuisine.
A simple dish of marinated olives, or houmous with hot pitta bread head
up a list of more adventurous starters like Oriental spring rolls with sweet
chilli sauce, or Parma ham and goat's cheese crostini with a wild mushroom
salad. There are main courses for every taste, from a roast fillet of peppered
salmon with cassoulet of cannellini beans, chorizo, celery and pesto, through
pot-roast shoulder of lamb, to serpentini pasta with roasted parsnips, rosemary,
pecorino and lemon oil. Round off the meal with Morello cherry sorbet, steamed
chocolate and pecan sponge or a selection of English cheeses with pear and
date chutney. A decent wine list with tasting notes features a dozen wines
by the glass - including champagne.
